Please join us on March 5 for a conversation with Casey Riley, Chair of Global Contemporary Art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia). This conversation will center Mia’s recent exhibition In Our Hands, an exhibition and catalogue Riley co-organized/co-edited with fellow Mia curators and a council of primarily Native artists, scholars, and knowledge sharers. The exhibition presents over 150 photographs of, by, and for Indigenous people, and traces the intersecting histories of photography and diverse Indigenous cultures from the Rio Grande to the Arctic Circle.

In this conversation, Riley will offer a brief introduction to In Our Hands and then will open it up to questions. She particularly welcomes queries relating to the planning of this exhibition: working with a large advisory council, procuring funding, challenges and opportunities within the curatorial process, etc. In the spirit of collaboration and collegiality, we encourage participants to also discuss their own curatorial work and use this conversation as a time to brainstorm, ask for help/support from our community, and think through curatorial practices. Please use this form to submit questions in advance to encourage a robust discussion.
